A Midnight Stroll (Open!)

Post by Aria »

The twilight air was just a touch chilly as it shifted and moved around her body, flowing through her mane and tail and spreading goosebumps as is went. The chirping of various insect types echoed in the distance, but a sound far off in the back of her mind. Her motions were flawless as she leaped into the air, landing just barely on the tips of her hooves, with her translucent pink wings helping to balance her. The hoove-steps made very little sound, only the creatures below the soil would pick up on it. Her body felt as light as the wind, and she took to the sky more than once before fluttering back down to the grassy hills beneath her.

Euphoria's heart raced. Adrenaline surged through her veins. Strong gusts of wind fed her energy, only encouraging her more. *gasp!* All four hooves hit the ground. HALT. She froze, heart pounding through her chest. Then, a burst forth as she leaped into the air once more. A loud cheer escaped her lips before she hushed herself, coming to a halt once more. Oh, the freedom she felt whenever she skipped through the fields, especially right after sunset when all gets quiet. Except her, of course. Panting, she paused to take a look around and gather her sense of direction. Her tail flicked back and forth, impatiently waiting for nothing.

The voices in her mind were beginning to resonate once more, but she hushed them back. Frolicking through the fields always helped clear her mind. Moving forward into a slow trot, she descended the hill she had stopped on, down into an open valley. The longer grass here tickled and nipped at her ankles as she walked, and although she enjoyed the sensation it was almost uncomfortable at this temperature. She pressed on, eventually coming to a rather tiny creek that was just barely moving. An amphibian of sorts hopped into the water with a splash as she approached and lowered her head to take a sip. The cool, refreshing water helped calm her back down.

Breezes billowed past a uniform blue body and teased through his heap of sand colored hair, just begging to be put to work. They loved their freedom, but they loved direction as well and they knew he could give it to them. Cyclone stood on a dip between hills watching as another enjoyed the breezes that chased him. She danced and twirled and whooped on her own pedestal in the distance, using those wings of hers to alight and share that joy with the wind. Her oblivion and wholehearted loss of all else made him smile inside, showing outwardly only in the little crow's feet wrinkles that showed at the corners of his eyes.

Those eyes gleamed silver as if they picked up what little light the stars sent from their heavens. With them sparking their interest in contrast to his outward calm, the stallion followed at a steady pace when she made her exit. No need to rush. His breezes led him unerringly forward to the valley filled with tall grasses. With his passage so silent, he would have perhaps walked into her like a ghost while she was drinking if those breezes had not stopped to circle around him once more. Instead he stopped short and took in the tiny trickle of water she'd found.

With barely a thought he sent the winds forward to flirt with her mane and tail again, remembering how he'd enjoyed the effect they had on her earlier. For now Cyclone remained silent as he awaited her attention and let her energy come down to a low simmer. Would she be as excitable in conversation? He was intrigued.

The cool water trickled over her tongue as she lapped it up. She eyed the small creek for any sign of the amphibian resurfacing, but there was none. Small ripples stretched out from where she drank, but there was no other movement. Suddenly, small ripples returned towards her from another disruption in the surface, but before she could follow them back to their origin, a strong wind kicked up. Without warning, her mane and tail were thrown up into the air and into a spin. The cool breeze sent another chill over her body and she immediately lifted her head, giggling. Her laugh echoed in the valley and she couldn't help but jump about, dancing in place as the wind swirled around her. It was just the best feeling.

It was then that she spotted him. Another Serian had been watching her it seemed. A silent observer. She paused, and the blue and violet hues of her mane and tail settled to a slow waving back and forth. Her smile stayed put, though, and instinctively she lowered her head in a bow. Her amethyst eyes studied him as she spoke. Pardon me, she said softly, the wind here has a mind of its own! It just lifts me right up! The other Serian was a deep teal color, from nose to rump, including his hooves. Thick, wild blonde hair of all shades stretched out from his mane and tail, light and fluffy as teased by the wind. The hair lined his back and blended together, a gorgeous contrast to his dark body. Silver eyes returned her gaze, and the moment they made contact with hers, she blushed.

Her mind spun with questions. Who was this Serian? Where did he come from? And most importantly, how long had he been watching her? Struggling to balance her emotions, she felt both embarrassed as well as flattered. She had just been frolicking around like a wild child, and probably looked quite silly. Alternatively, she was just fine with that. She was a free spirit, why should anyone see her as anything differently? If they didn't like or approve, she would choose not to associate with them anyway. For some reason though, she wondered what kind of impression she had already given this particular Serian.

It gave him a thrill, to see her so pleased by the return of the wind. To see that joy that poured out of her in dance, even if it were a short one. And then, how quickly she stilled. He'd startled her. It was inevitable, really. But he'd done nothing yet to be truly startling aside from being present when she thought herself alone.

You have no reason at all to bow to me, little dancer. He regarded her for a moment or two more, enjoying the trading of gazes. She blushed. He took it as a good sign. The unspoken words, unanswered questions... they all held a tension in the air that the breezes could not break. A tension he'd never felt before. And he was a Wind stallion, he knew pressures and tensions like select few others.

Was that a smirk sneaking through on his features? A mind of its own, you say? He gathered more, called the winds to him. Into a tiny cyclone he funneled them. Nothing near big enough to get the trees swaying. Worst of it was merely ripping up some grass here and there. Don't get carried away now, a voice in his head echoed. Gently. Little by little. Not to scare the beauty. Control doubled and the cyclone blossomed into four, one for each dainty hoof. He bid it lift her up. So slowly she could simply leap aside if it alarmed her. Somehow he doubted it would.

Didn't cross his mind mayhaps he should've asked first if the lady even wanted a ride on a mini tornado. Didn't occur to him that maybe he should've introduced first, chatted. Why amble? Plenty of time for all that.

A masculine voice with just a hint of curiosity initiated his response. He insisted she need not bow or ask to be pardoned, which made the skin of her cheeks glow even more. His comment included a sort of nickname, which he must have chosen for her on the spot as he had never met her before. Little dancer. His words echoed in her mind. It was a compliment, that was for certain. It meant he had been watching her for some time, as she danced along the hills with the gusts of wind. The nickname suggested he did not mind, at least.

The serian smirked at her comment. "A mind of its own, you say?" he had asked, somewhat mischievously. He was playful! This was going to go well, she could tell already. Not all serians were playful, some were quite strict with their behavior and chose not to associate with those that weren't. Her bond brothers and sisters weren't very playful either, leaving her alone to her musings and adventures. Every now and then Abyss played tag with her, but that was only because he loved to run. He was really the only one she got along with, the others-

A wind kicked up between them, immediately catching her attention and distracting her from her train of thought. She narrowed her eyes, slightly tilting her head to the left, confused. The wind began to circle in front of them, picking up strength and speed. Within seconds, a small cyclone had formed, swirling the grass beneath it and making a soft whistling sound. Before she could say a word, the cyclone split into several smaller vortexes and moved directly under her. Suddenly, her hooves were barely touching the ground, the wind picking up strength gradually. Unconsciously, she let out a gasp of surprise.

Goodness! What is- and within seconds, her body float in the air, hooves hovering over small tornado-like winds. Once her mind caught up with her body, she glared at him playfully. Are you doing this?? Were you the one controlling the winds? she asked, eyes wide in amusement. The wind once again rushed through her mane and tail, giving her that rush of excitement once again. This was incredible! She loved the wind, the way it danced around her and through her hair. It was the best feeling, and she couldn't help but giggle in excitement, floating freely above the earth's surface.

A quiet chuckle, then. Brought on mostly by the glare. He could see she had no real anger in it, but fun. Somehow he began to doubt she did much that she didn't consider fun. Yes, you guess rightly. The winds and the pressures of that air do my bidding. Did they not, the name Cyclone might seem much more feeble. Velvety nose dipped in greeting at his official offering of a name. He'd left the miniature tornadoes rising slowly so that he was now looking up at her, then held them level and awaited her reaction. She looked so caught up in the enjoyment of it that perhaps he ought to wait for any real conversation.

One could only wonder at the namesake this one would carry with her, but he would wait for her to offer it when she rejoined him. If she rejoined him. He flicked a thought at the vortexes, making sure the disks of air he held at their centers held strong. Otherwise the greedy things would gobble them right up and go looking for a dainty hoof soon afterwards. The normally impatient stallion stood at his leisure, happy to see another enjoying his efforts for once.
